Back in to Creative

2013 was a pretty boring year for Kitschy Aprons.  I seriously had no time for sewing so the only things I created were custom orders.  I didn't have any time to get lost in fabric selection or creating new styles or doing any of the artistic parts of what I do.  Don't get me wrong, I love the super hero line of aprons that I make, but that is pretty much all I made!  My Etsy store's sold page pretty much tells the story.
This year I've restructured how I do things around here and hopefully that will free up more of my time for the creative part of running a handmade business.  So far this year I've already made as many new styles as I did during the entire 2013!  The only problem now is finding a good spot for taking photos.  I also desperately need a new mannequin but you don't need to hear about all of that.  Here are a couple of new One-of-a-Kind aprons that I've made recently....

Prepping for Atomic... in December

It may sound like I'm crazy early to be sewing now for a show in December... but really, I've been sewing all summer!  I'm excited!

Bigger pockets for photographers.... genius!

Last week I had a customer inquire whether or not I could make the pockets larger on a Wonder Woman apron.  Of course I can! They are already really big, but she is a photographer and is hoping to cut down on the amount of bags she has to carry around for her equipment so they needed to be extra big.  Collaborating is fantastic because I automatically assumed that I'd just make the pockets longer but she suggested that I keep the length the same but make the pockets come all the way up to the gold band.  Duh.  It is so funny how you can be so familiar with something but never really see it.  Having an outside perspective is refreshing.
Because she is planning to keep important stuff in these pockets, she didn't want them to be open all the time.  Velcro!
I've had other customers purchase aprons for work, make up artists, face painters and hair dressers but I think this is the first photographer (that I know of), I'm certain this apron will make her get in front of a camera every now and then too.
